چکیده

For many industries (e.g., apparel retailing) managing demand through price adjustments is often the only tool left to companies once the replenishment decisions are made. A significant amount of demand uncertainty can be resolved using the early sales information. In this study, a Bayesian approach is used to summarize sales information and pricing history in an efficient way which then feeds into a periodic pricing model to optimize revenues for a given stock items over a finite horizon. It is shown that the optimal price in a given period is a non–decreasing function of sales in the earlier periods when demand learning takes place. A computational study is carried out in order to find out the circumstances under which learning is most beneficial. Finally, the model is extended to allow for replenishments within the season, in order to understand global sourcing decisions made by apparel retailers. Findings are empirically validated using data from U.S. apparel industry.

Style Goods Pricing with Competition

We study timing decisions for price change of style goods in the existence of competition. We model as a duopoly two firms which are selling their fixed stocks of an item in a given period of time. Our model differs from existing single-firm inventory models in that we explicitly consider the demand interactions through pricing decisions by two competing firms. Each firm starts with the same in...

Pricing Digital Goods: Discontinuous Costs and Shared Infrastructure1

We develop and analyze a model of pricing for digital products with discontinuous supply functions. This characterizes a number of information technology-based products and services for which variable increases in demand are fulfilled by the addition of "blocks" of computing or network infrastructure. Examples include internet service, telephony, online trading, on-demand software, digital musi...

Optimal advertising and pricing decisions for complementary products

Cooperative advertising is an agreement between a manufacturer and a retailer to share advertising cost at the local level. Previous studies have not investigated cooperative advertising for complementary products and their main focus was only on one good. In this paper, we study a two-echelon supply chain consisting of one manufacturer and one retailer with two complementary goods. The demand ...
